WALLEYE LAKE OUTPOSTS NEWS

Winter storage of Outboards

Storing your Outboards is more important today then ever. With Ethanol blend fuels, if let sit for periods of time, as short as a month it will separate the moisture (water) from the fuel. In the fall it is very important to drain all fuel from the carb's, tanks and hoses. To prevent this from happening, use premium fuel with no Ethanol, it will save you a lot of headaches. The lower unit needs to be checked and lower unit oil changed. Loosen the lower drain plug and check to see if the oil is a milky color. If it is, you need to have the lower unit seals checked. If the oil looks good then loosen the upper drain screw and drain the oil and refill with new oil. Do not leave the lower unit empty over the winter. Remove the prop and inspect for fishing line that makes its way to the prop shaft seals if not check on a regular bases.

October surprises

canada fly-in fishing

Last weekend we went to Walleye to shut down the water and close up for the season. The weather was one of the best weekends of the year. Day time highs were 22 degrees celius and lows of 11 degrees celius. We had clear star filled sky's at nights and hot warm sun all day. This is a real treat for this time of year. Last years experience was a whole lot different. We had 8" of snow and got weathered in for two days.

Fall Fishing Canada

Departing Kenora

The Johnson party is from Albuquerque, New Mexico. They love fishing Canada this time of year. The cool temperature is a welcome relief to there hot and humid conditions. The Johnson's have been coming for years and enjoy the colors that the season brings along with the fantastic fishing. This time of the year the fish are getting ready for the long winter and are feeding heavy. Lots of larger fish are caught this time of year. Staying a full week is some times challenging to keep your bait alive. In the fall the water temperatures cools and the bait in minnow buckets in the lake keep them fresh as can be. This is also the start of the Moose rutting season. There is a good chance of seeing a animal feeding on the shore line.

Fall is in the air

canada fly-in fishing

Fall is in the air. The surface temperature is dropping. Walleye's are reported to be found in 8' to 10' of water with access to a deep basin of water. They will generally stay in this location until freeze up and move deeper as the temperature cools. Bass are also found in similar areas except in deeper water. They are moving to their winter locations and when you locate them be ready. Large bass gorge this time of year. The bigger the bait the better.

Fishing Canada

Sun Set Walleye Lake

My family and I along with my brother had found a open window to enjoy our Camp on Walleye Lake.  For the two nights we spent there we encountered many beautiful things. Early morning White tail swimming. Lots of 18" to 24" Walleye's. Out side cook outs. My daughter insisted on her open fire smores. All of this with picturesque scenery. This is living in Canada.
